Best campsites for real campfires

A campfire is the difference between accommodation and an adventure. Increasingly rare in the UK, fires are still positively welcomed at these sites, in fire pits or on open ground, with wood usually sold at the gate so you are not smuggling logs across three counties.

House rules vary: some sites want fires off the ground in bowls, some sell kindling bundles and marshmallow kits, and all of them ask you to douse before midnight. Check each site's current fire policy when booking, especially in dry spells.
